DR. B. R. AMBEDKAR
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born on 14th April, 1891. His native place was Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. After completion of his education in India Ambedkar went to the USA and Britain for higher education. Coming back to India he began legal practice at Bombay High Court. Apart from being successful in professional career, Bhimrao became the champion for the cause of the untouchables whom he led for their uplift. When India got freedom, he was entrusted with the task of framing the Indian Constitution. As a mark of honour he was awarded doctorate by Columbia University. Though belated, Dr. Ambedkar was honoured by the Government of India when, in 1990, he was posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna. This great son of India breathed his last on 6th December, 1956.
